| Notes |
- Died of meningitis from sunstroke in Chch. Was last seen by a doctor at Christchurch Hospital on day of death. Cemetary registrar lists his surname as Foggarty and informant as M. Fogarty. It says he was 30 years in the province and last came from Melbourne. If records are accurate he must have arrived in Canterbury in 1861 when he was 21 years old. In a Wise's directory for 1887-88 he is listed as Thomas Froggarty, 17 Creyke St, which used to be between High St & Montreal St in CHCH. A check of the records in Australia suggests the only Thomas Fogarty who fits the description arrived in Melbourne onboard the Commodore Perry which left Liverpool on Aug 1861 and arrived in Melbourne in December. If he is the same one he must have travelled to NZ almost immediately.
